Well, let’s just say that finding a pair of shorts that actually matches my toddler’s daily mood can feel like an Olympic event.
But here’s the kicker: research shows that working mothers experience stress levels akin to those of skydivers without parachutes! Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but you get the point. If only there were awards for balancing boardroom strategies with bedtime stories! I mean, why not add “professional juggler” to our resumes?

Coming from a corporate background, I can’t stress enough how vital it is for companies to recognise their employees as more than just numbers on a spreadsheet. When your workplace understands that you’re not only a professional woman but also a mother first and foremost, everything changes. Suddenly, those guilt trips for taking leave to nurse a sick child feel less like criminal offences and more like acts of self-preservation.
Imagine this scenario: Your little one comes down with the sniffles. It’s heartbreaking enough without adding layers of workplace guilt on top. Wouldn’t it be nice if bosses could say, “Take care of your child; we’ll manage!”? Let’s dream big here!
What Makes It All Worth It
Despite all the chaos and occasional meltdowns (both from you and your children), what makes this juggling act worthwhile? Spending precious time with my children when I’m not working brings me unparalleled joy. I find myself listening more intently during those bedtime stories, because let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to hear about the sun that is angry because it has gas? I laugh more at their silly antics and the weird and wonderful things they say (like trying to convince me that chocolate is actually a healthy food group), talk more about their dreams (and yes, they include being superheroes, dinosaurs and Godzillas), and truly savour these fleeting moments.
